Why Collecting Hoyas Is Obsessive

While collecting hoyas can be a rewarding and enjoyable hobby for many, it's important to note that, like any hobby or interest, it can become obsessive in some cases. Collecting rare or unusual hoyas can be particularly prone to obsession, for several reasons:

  1. The pursuit of rare or hard-to-find hoya plants can become all-consuming, with collectors dedicating significant time, effort, and resources to tracking down and acquiring these plants.

  2. The desire to own every possible variety of a hoya can lead to a "collector's mindset," in which the pursuit of new acquisitions becomes more important than the actual enjoyment of the plants.

  3. Collectors may become obsessed with the idea of a perfect collection, constantly seeking out new and rare hoyas to add to their collection and discarding those that no longer fit their criteria.

  4. The social aspect of collecting can also contribute to obsession, as collectors may feel pressure to keep up with or outdo others in their community.

While there's nothing inherently wrong with collecting plants or any other hobby, it's important to maintain a healthy balance and avoid allowing the pursuit of the hobby to become all-consuming. Make sure to take time to enjoy your hoya collection and the fun and satisfaction of collecting them.
